Obituary For Eleanor DeCoster

Eleanor DeCoster

2011-2026

Eleanor DeCoster, our best friend of almost 13 years peacefully slipped away at home surrounded by so much love on 16 October 2026.

She joined our family in 2014. Eleanor was already 3-4 years old but we knew right away she was our dog. She has been with us practically our entire adult life. She has seen us get married and two beautiful children being born. She's been our little world traveler, moving with us to Germany where she did some traveling around Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, and Liechtenstein. She then moved with us to Hawaii, a place she didn't care for due to the heat. Finally, moving back home to Rapid City, SD where she finally had her own house and yard.

Eleanor was literally the best girl. We cannot think of a better dog, companion, and friend. She was our hiking buddy, our Cheez-It fiend, our cuddle monster, and a dog that we swear could understand us when we confided in her during really difficult seasons of our life. Eleanor was in many ways our best friend. We've never loved a dog so deeply in our life and we don't think we ever will.

In the last year or so Eleanor had battled dementia and kidney disease. Despite her dementia, she remained one of the most loving, gentle, and stoic dogs.

We are absolutely devestated and heartbroken. No amount of time is enough, but we find comfort knowing that she is no longer confused or in pain. Eleanor will always be loved and remembered.

I was Eleanor's auntie and she was easily one of the best dogs a person could ever have at their side even if she did scare the crap out of me at night when she'd use her doggy door super loudly or silently open a bedroom door and make me think a ghost was in the house. I'll miss her tremendously.
